How We Rank

Our mattress scores are based on several different pieces of objective and easily verifiable information.

Some of the criteria we look at when ranking mattress companies are things like pricing & manufacturing transparency, number of BBB complaints in the last 3 years, etc.

Here’s a breakdown of some — but not all — of the factors we consider when grading mattress companies, and why we think each of them is very important:

  1. Length of Warranty
  2. Trial Period
  3. Price for a Queen
  4. Number of BBB Complaints in Last 3 Years
  5. Thoroughness & Simplicity of FAQ
  6. Live Chat Support
  7. Pricing & Manufacturing Transparency

Length of Warranty

The length of warranty is an important indicator of whether the company TRULY stands behind their product. If your mattress fails in some specific way (as defined by the warranty), the mattress company will take responsibility and try to resolve the problem.

Basically, a warranty provides peace of mind and protection to a consumer because you know you can trust a product’s integrity.

If a mattress company has an excellent warranty, chances are it produces high-quality mattresses with great materials and fantastic craftsmanship.

Their warranty means that they stand by their product(s), and reflects the faith they have in them.

Trial Period

Like warranty length, a trial period is also an important indicator of how confident a mattress company is in their product(s)

A trial period basically means the length of time you can use a mattress before deciding whether you want to keep it or not.

The longer the trial period, the higher the likelihood that a company is confident that you’ll love their mattress.

It’s also a good indicator that the mattress is high-quality, and the company is not afraid of putting it to the test.

Price for a Queen

Price is one of the most important factors consumers consider when shopping for a new mattress.

We’re looking at pricing for a Queen mattress because this is by far the most popular mattress people buy.

Because most mattress companies have several different mattress models, we only look at each company’s most affordable mattress price.

Number of BBB Complaints in Last 3 Years

Better Business Bureau, or BBB, is an important tool to evaluate a company’s trustworthiness and performance.

Founded in 1912, it has been an independent arbiter of good business practices for dozens of years.

BBB serves as an intermediary when consumers have complaints, and grades businesses based on more than twelve different factors, including the company’s history of handling customer complaints.

We look at the number of BBB complaints in the last 3 years to see whether a mattress company has a poor track record when it comes to serving their customers and resolving issues

Thoroughness & Simplicity of FAQ

When consumers have questions, they want answers.

We look at the thoroughness and simplicity of a company’s FAQ page because we believe it is an important indicator of how far the company is willing to go to make sure their customers have all their questions answered.

Simple and detailed FAQ pages mean that a mattress company has put in the work to make sure that no stone is left unturned when it comes to answering their customer’s questions.

Live Chat Support

Sometimes, regardless of how detailed and thorough the FAQ page is, you need to talk to a live agent to get your question answered.

That is why we also look to see if a mattress company provides live chat support during normal business hours.

In our opinion, having a live chat — not just email — to answer your question is a big part of a good customer service experience.

Pricing & Manufacturing Transparency

It’s the 21st century and transparency matters.

We believe that companies who don’t play any games, and tell it like it is, can be trusted much more than those that don’t.

We look to see if a mattress company is transparent about their pricing & manufacturing, and readily shares this information with their customers.

Nobody likes greedy corporations who put profits over people, and we’re not an exception.
